Today we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. Today’s Mass takes precedence over the regular Sunday Mass, which this year would be the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. It takes precedence because in the Church’s liturgical calendar there are only three nativities that are celebrated, the birth of Christ, the birth of His mother Mary, and today’s nativity, the birth of Jesus Christ’s cousin, John the Baptist.
In the Church’s calendar these three births are exceptional.
Today John is born. Today we pay special attention to one who was filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb of his mother, even before he was born. In all of Scripture there were only three who were filled with the Holy Spirit in the wombs of their mothers prior to being born – Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist.
The Eucharist is the time when we come to be filled with the Holy Spirit. We become as St. John the witnesses and preachers of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. We need the power of faith to be worthy of this grace.

Drodzy….Ksiadz Andrzej, Ewa, Rodzinka, I przyjacieli w Holy Cross!!!
Hello everyone!
With this note, we send our hellos and hope all is well with the “other” Holy Cross that is near and dear to our hearts. It has been almost 2 years since we left for the Detroit area. All is well here but we think of you often and of all the warmth and friendship you showed us all.
My parents are doing well and just about ready to head back to Florida for the warm weather. Greg and I are working, and helping our other Holy Cross family here quite a bit. My mother is just about to make 200 golambki for the upcoming Polish Dinner on Oct. 20. You are all welcome to come! We are also making 50 pounds of chrusciki for a fundraiser.
Fall quickly came to Michigan, and much too cold too fast. The colors are beautiful, however. I am hoping to visit Bethesda this year, and will certainly drop into my other church in Baltimore if that happens.
I wish you all much health, happiness and success for everyone and the church.
Hello from Stanley, Josephine, Greg and Chris
