8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

mammonToday we celebrate the 8th Sunday in OT. This Time concerns our daily lives. And it concerns our special call to be disciples of Jesus.

Trust in the Lord! That is the strong message of the readings that we hear today. Never, ever think that God has forgotten you because that is simply impossible. For our part, we are invited to choose God and reject all that is not of God. The Gospel today is very clear that we cannot choose two masters at once.

Why would we think that God has forgotten us? Usually because we have encountered some deep suffering in life. There can be so many reasons to feel that God has abandoned us. So many of us question why God allows evil to happen and yet we know that without freedom, we would not be truly human as we are.

The Eucharist which we now celebrate is our free choice to be with God and thank Him for his heavenly providence. We meet Him in spirit when we hear His teaching and we feel his presence when we get His holy food. After that special weekly event we are prepared to serve Him in our daily lives.
