The liturgy of Good Friday recalls graphically the passion and death of Jesus. The reading of the passion describes the suffering and death of Jesus.
Today we show great reverence for the crucifix, the sign of our redemption. According to the Church’s ancient tradition, the sacraments, except for Penance and the Anointing of the Sick, are not celebrated today or tomorrow. The celebration of the Lord’s passion takes place in the afternoon, about three o’clock, unless pastoral reasons suggest a later hour.
