1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT – Hope

Today we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent – the beginning of the new Church calendar. Each year we start the new liturgical year, with the same feasts and the same periods as year before, but we changed ourselves day by day. Thus we start the new liturgical year 2019, now. The topic or the mission statement for this year is: “We are God’s Family”– it means that we need to realize this great privilege to be Catholic Christian in the pagan’s world and put our whole hope and desire only in Jesus Christ who is our Big Brother, who can make our parish a new environment with the atmosphere of good Family who care for all members.

The Eucharist as our core of our worship to God is the time when we discover that Jesus Christ is really present in it and he prays in our name to God the Father. We need to extend this situation which we call real meeting with the Lord for the rest of our daily time.

An advent wreath can help us to get back to the real “Spirit” of the Advent season.

(The Advent wreath reminds us that Jesus is the true source of joy. The circular shape of the Advent wreath denotes that God’s Love for us will never end; it is everlasting. The evergreen is an ancient symbol of victory and glory. The lighting of the candles each week another is also very symbolic. For centuries, it has been a religious practice to represent Jesus, our Lord, by a burning candle “I am the light of the world”. Each week we light another candle to mark our faith journey into our own Advent.)
