17th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In this time, we are listening to very important things for our own spirituality. Today we will get the lesson from Jesus about a perfect prayer.

Now we start the Holy Eucharist, which is the greatest prayer for each Catholic-Christian. The Eucharist is a prayer to God the Father throughout Jesus and by the help of the Holy Spirit. We share our prayers in the divine circle of Holy Trinity. Therefore, it is very important to be persistent and persevering in our petition to God Our Father.

„Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.”

How can our conscience tell us whether or not we are renouncing things unless it first of all tells us that we know how to use them properly? For renunciation is not an end in itself: it helps us to use things better. It helps us to give them away. If reality revolts us, if we merely turn away from it in disgust, to whom shall we sacrifice it? How shall we consecrate it? How shall we make of it a gift to God and to men?. (Thomas Merton – No Man is an Island)

Welcome Our Visitors

Please write your names in the guest book located in the vestibule of the church. Please remember that you are always welcome to join us in worship at Holy Cross Church.

One Main Point

Jesus teaches us how to pray and live according to God’s rule of love.

Reflections

  1. Do I need God? What, or who, controls my life? Am I too comfortable and self-sufficient to pray?
  2. Does the “Our Father” prayer give me an identity? A rule of conduct, a catechism? The new Catechism has a lengthy section on this prayer.
